Mediated Sex

I content analyzed "Saw" for mediated sex.  Much to my surprise, there was no actual sex.  This is becoming increasingly unheard of in today's slasher films.  This is because of the desensitization theory.  As people watch violence, they grow less sensitive towards it.  Producers then make their films with more violence, and the cycle continues.

One of the main sexual parts of the movie was the scene where the doctor, Lawrance, goes to have an affair with his secretary.  The woman starts to take her clothes off willingly but the doctor says he doesn't want the affair.  In most slasher films the sex is forced, but not in this case.

I noticed that all of the men who play Jigsaw's game, besides the main three, are only in boxers.  The man who was in the barbed wire and the man in the room full of numbers were both in their boxers.

The part where the man takes the wife and daughter of the doctor hostage and listens to the girl's heart beat as he puts a gun to her mom's head has a somewhat sexual undertone.  The two fear him and he can do whatever he wants with them.

Besides these scenes, the only other sex parts were spoken.  The other man who is locked in the bathroom with the doctor said being in there was 'the most I've had without lubrication' when he sees there's a video camera watching them.

He also said he didn't care if the doctor had a 15 hooker gang bang when they were talking about how he knew the doctor had an affair.

The rest of the movie was full of blood, violence, and a lot cursing.  There's a 'dead' man, who ends up being Jigsaw, laying in a pool of blood the whole time the two are trapped in the bathroom.

The doctor ends up sawing through his leg so he can escape and it is shown on screen.  A picture of a burned body is shown and so is the two men being electricuted.

I can see why these kinds of shows cause violent behavior.  Jigsaw isn't caught and everyone knows who he is.  I think it's very important that young kids do not see movies like this.  It seems today that ratings are getting lower and lower.  Like the kids are becoming accustomed to sex and violence in the media so the rating are lowered because it's becoming ok for them to see it.

I have a fear that the modeling theory is in fact true.  People see this and copy it.  Jigsaw was not rewarded for it but he got away with what he was doing and he was famous for it.
